My 12 Steps

Note 1: This is a work in progress, subject to change. No comments, please.

Note 2: definition of delusion, from Merriam-Webster’s Medical Dictionary: a false belief regarding the self or persons or objects outside theself that persists despite the facts.

Step 1

Original: We admitted we were powerless over alcohol – that our lives had become unmanageable.

My Version: I admit the following: I lose my power when I drink and my life is out of control due to delusional thinking and other destructive effects of alcohol, and I care enough to find a new path.

Step 2

Original: Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

My Version: Came to believe there’s something out there that I can connect with to help relieve me of my delusions.

Step 3

Original: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

My version: I choose recovery by connecting with what is real in this life in this moment.

Step 4 (still working on this one)

Original: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

My version: I will evaluate my aversions and how they affected my thoughts and behaviors, and how they have affected myself and others. How do I continue to create and sustain suffering?

That’s all I got so far :)
