empty spaces breathe
sweetness and light, life and love
the shortest day sighs

i imagine sharing slow sweet passion with a nonexistent lover.
my breath is ripped from my chest as i embrace the heat of his mouth
it’s still about the eye contact, about that sweet spot on his neck that i just can’t resist,
about that rhythm created as our lips part and find each other again.

i can feel your breath
from a thousand miles.
the heat takes my attention,
the wanting takes my soul.

garlic
scents the crisp air.
black beans, tortillas, and
spices. i ache to welcome the
full moon.

sigh. spew
my culture on
agar and see what grows.
perhaps a biological
sadness.

yellow
moon on twilight
breathes amaranthine clouds
there’s nothing more perfect than this
moment

the moon hazes yellow
with fuel familiar from my childhood.
the hills are burning again.
i can’t get far enough away;
the smoke drifts with the gentle breeze.

I cry at the possibilities I thought left me long ago.
But they never left; I just lost sight of them.

I can’t see your face
but I can feel it;
the heat of your breath and your skin
as you lean in;
the softness of your lips
in the rugged stubble of your beard.
I can’t hear your voice
but I can read your words;
the humor always
brings a laugh;
the acceptance always
brings a smile.
I can’t feel your touch
but I can sense your heart;
your kindness
touches me;
your love
makes me sigh.

If only for a moment…
**gasp**
Was that real
Why did you have to go
I don’t know what to say
Except that I’ll never forget
The way you made me feel
Complete
